Perhaps I am doing something wrong and my machine will explode next
time, followed by gremlins eating my backups, but:
I got most of the last GCC versions up to 2.2.2 now and I did most
kernel patches up to 0.96c now. I unpacked things to the directories
used in the tar files and did small changes for personal taste in the
Makefiles -- and I never got any problems. Things compile fine and
work, no problems at all. What am I doing wrong in not moving include
files? I mean, when I get a new linux kernel with its new kernel
include files, why should I move them all the time? Apart from ps (I
believe) nothing else uses them and I have all kernel sources together
under one directory, plus I don't get any problems in editing Makefiles
all the time.
I really must be doing something wrong, in just using things as they
unpack. It always works and I can't complain ;-)
Big compliments for HLU and Linus, the usual experience with your stuff
is that it just works great. The result is a stable UNIX system which
is nice to work with. I just had to say that after reading so much
complains.
