Here's some more questions...

1) If I get the new boot image disk (.96a right?) and bring Linux up with
this then how do I go about installing .96c that Linus just released?
Do I have to recompile the kernel with the new .96c code or is a
   pre-made binary for .96c available?

2) Should I stick with just .96a for now or go-for-broke and use the
extended file system that .96c provides? I'd like to be able to
have partitions greater than 64 Mb plus long file names would be
   nice too.

3) Just how long can file names be with the extended file system?
   Greater than 32 characters?

4) I like vi to edit stuff with. Is there a vi clone available for
Linux? Or, something very close to it?

5) How come the boot disk doesn't come with ps? Isn't ps a pretty
basic unix command? Yes, I realize that there is something
about this in a FAQ but this question still hasn't been
   answered to my satisfaction.

BTW, the boot disk sounds like it's going to be really good. I
tried to install SVR4 on a 386 before and I probably had less to
work with when I got the base system installed than I will with
Linux. I sure as hell didn't have an editor online...about the
only thing on the hard drive was the kernel, Bourne shell, and a
few utils.
