You are referring to the GCC 2.2.2 that was released to the public,
right? That is the version you (and everyone else) should be using,
as hlu has said oh so many times.

The source I used came from the comp.sources.unix (misc?) postings
slurped from ftp.uu.net, with some small modifications taken from the
BSD version of /bin/sh, which was based on ash. (Well, it was ash,
but a BSD-ized one).

My recommendation would be to not bother. Ash has too many problems,
and it will not be on the next official root disk. Back to bash, it
looks like. :) (Maybe, just maybe, zsh. I'm still looking at this.)
