Okay, somebody try this who's running 0.96b patchlevel 2 to make sure I'm not
just dreaming this... Under the old kernel I was running (0.96b, no patches)
running xlock under X11 worked fine. For example, the happy little bees
chasing a wasp run VERY fast... Now, under 0.96b patchlevel 2 (compiled with
gcc 2.2.2), the thing runs like a SLUG. As a matter of fact, EVERYTHING does..
I mostly run stuff in X, but my mouse updates have slowed sometimes to as much
as one every second or so with 0.96bpl2... I *think* this might be related
to the new serial code (using irqs or whatever) but I have NOTHING concrete
to back that up... But somebody, please, run a graphics-intensive program
like xlock on an unloaded system under both 0.96b straight and 0.96b patchlevel
2 and tell me that it doesn't totally kill the performance by at least a
factor of five.... Does anybody have any idea what's wrong?

Joe
