From: davisar@memstvx1.memst.edu Subject: ADAPTEC INSTALL QUESTIONS Date: 29 Dec 1992 22:48:03 GMT
System:Toshiba386/20 100mb Conner IDE HD;387-20copro,Adaptec 1542,
Syquest SQ5110 OS2/2.0 & Linux installed. SQ5110 internally
terminated. Enclosed disk formatted.Desire to boot from internal
now;external in future; with multiple partitions on both drives.
Review of the Adaptec AHA-1542b as setup:
J5: synchronous negotiation disabled other setups
scsi parity enabled
scsi address 7
DMA Channel 5
interrupt channel 11
DMA transfer speed 5.0 (5.7?)
J6: BIOS enabled tried disabled
Auto Sense enabled tried disabled
J7: AT I/O Address 330H
BIOS Wait State 0,disabled
AT BIOS Address CD000H,Enabled
J8: (all jumpers removed) disabled
J9: DMA Request 5
DMA Acknowledge 5
INT Request 11
Above is AHA-1542B as shipped. Exceptions:
J8: shipped as [floppy enabled: DMA 2 REQ: DMA 2 ACK: INT 10].
J5: DMA transfer speed shipped set to 5.0; not the stated 5.7.
SQ5110: I changed the ID on SQ5110 from 6 to 0 using a button on
the rear;instructions indicate changes are made using jumpers.
Tried enabling J7: Floppy Secondary address.
Reviewed the toshiba technical reference manual. Nothing.
In my C:\OS2 directory, I have found these files:
OS2DASD.DMD OS2SCSI.DMD IBM1FLPY.ADD IBM1S506.ADD
In config.sys file I have found these basedev:
=PRINT01.SYS =IBM1FLPY.ADD =IBM1S506.ADD =OS2DASD.DMD
Adaptec literature mentions two things I have not found:
(1) AHA154x.add. (2) a basedev line in config.sys using (1).
Q#1: Has anyone sayed that Toshiba 5200 controllers require bus
mastering be disabled? Q#2: Can you see any solutions?
until I can get this thing attached to OS2, I shouldn't try Linux.
But since I know I will can anyone give the step by step.
