Subject: Can't allocate color?!

I use xloadimage to load a 256 color image onto the background. But each
time after doing this, I get the message "Can't allocate color" when
running other applcations (e.g. xmahjongg, Seyon). Moreover, if I add
"xloadimage -onroot image.gif" into my .twmrc before "exec twm", I get
only black and white windows. It appears that xloadimage is holding the
colors, disallowing others to use them. Can anyone please help?
