        Make config ; Make dep ; Make clean works fine but Make all bails almost
right away. I get SCSI disk error messages on four consecutive sectors
and then --

as -c -o boot/head.o boot/head.s
make: *** [boot/head.o] Illegal instruction (core dumped)

?????? -- any clues
