Welcome to the fold.

: These have probably been answered elsewhere but I'll ask anyway ... I've
: noticed a number of users asking about problems in uucp, mail, and minicom. I'm
: using SLS 98p5 and am experiencing problems with each also.
:
: 1) Just typing mail causes a core and through elm or emacs rmail mail seems to
: be sent but never arrives (I'm just trying it locally).

You might want to grab smail 2.5 or 3.1.28 and compile it instead.

: 2) Minicom -s gives a seg violation so I can't ever set it up. I brought a
: version down from tsx-11 with a patch hoping that had a fix in it but it didn't.

Is it the H.J. Lu patch? If so, then it should work. I'm using it right
now with no difficulties.

: 3) I've had some problems setting up uucp. While browsing the net I've noticed
: several people implying uucp does not work currently. Is this correct?

I posted a patch for this a while ago. You need to grab mpak-1.3.tar.Z
to use this patch. As for me, I'm running Taylor UUCP and luvvin' it!!!!

: For all of the above, if they are not working now. Is there a previous version
: I can count on?

Well, maybe not the programs, but you can count on an older version of the
kernel, 0.98pl1 works just fine for those programs.

: Thanks in advance for any help.

Anytime.
