I know I know...I read the FAQ and I'm aware of Diamond's
brain damaged attitude towards helping hackers use their
products. However, (you just KNEW there would be a however
in there, right?) my machine currently has a Speedstar+
HiColor board in it and the holiday season budget will prevent
me from upgrading my video card any time in the near future.
I got the SLS release and it works just fine. Before
I go through all the gyrations to get X running, I thought
it would be better to ask if anyone else has gotten this
setup to work and if it does what special things I need to
do to my setup to make my Diamond board "play nicely" with
X & Linux.
My setup:
Zeos 486-33/66
8mb 50ns RAM
130 meg IDE drive
Diamond (gag) Speedstar+ HiColor
CTX 14" 1024x768 monitor
Is X worth the trouble? I have never used it before and space
is tight right now since I am reluctant to zap my Coherent
partition until I'm sure Linux works OK. Hehe, my feed site
tends to get testy if I don't pick up my mail/news fairly
often. :)
Any information would be greatly appreciated.
Best regards,
Chris
p.s. Thank you to everyone who sent me all the helpful info
about linux in the last few days!
