From: james@netcom.com (James L. Paul) Subject: Dialups: Locking DTE speed and Carrier Loss ??? Date: Mon, 31 Aug 1992 03:54:07 GMT
I'm using 0.97.1 and GCC 2.2.2 with uugetty from the getty_ps package.
Is there a standard modem command (AT set) to lock the serial speed to
one value independent of modem speed. I can't find one for any of my
modems (so they obviously might not support it) but I'd like to know
what the command is, so that I can try it.
Now on to more Linux-specific... With the original getty (from the root
image) a carrier loss situation gets handled properly. I.E., the processes
get killed and getty is respawned. This getty does not handle multiple
connect speeds as well, and does not have a uugetty option, so I'm no
longer using it, in favor of uugetty as I said above. BUT...
Now when carrier is lost without logging out, the processes no longer
get killed. Yes, I have the -HUPCL in all the /etc/gettydefs entries.
Yes, the DCD line follows modem carrier detect. No, things aren't
working right, and if somebody forgets to log off or loses carrier,
that tty can't be used until I manually kill the process, at which
point uugetty is properly respawn.
I can't find any clue in the man pages, and hope desperately that
some kind soul can help out! Thanks in advance!
