Subject: bash documentation

I have just started using linux. I have version 0.96c+, I haven't gotten
0.97 yet because I know you guys are fixing bugs in it and I figured I would
have enough problem getting setup so I settled for 0.96c+. Now for the question
Where can I find documentation on bash. Right now all I want to do is set the
path so I don't have to type in these long directory every time I want to
execute a program. I did find bash.dvi on tsx-11, but it is not text, it is
a bunch of binary code. Even man pages would be a help, even though I do not
know how to install man pages. Also is there similar stuff for X windows, so
I can try and fidle with the Xconfig stuff to get it to display decently, so
I don't have to bother you guys with my questions. Just in case you are curious
I installed the distribution available from sc.tamu.edu.

Thanks for the time,
