Subject: compiled kernel GP faults on me, why?
Date: 28 Aug 1992 08:45:47 GMT

I've just tried compiling the kernel version 0.97 (including patches 1&2)
with gcc-2.2.2d. It compiles fine, but when I try to boot off the Image
produced I get a general protection fault (at least I guess that's what
it is). It goes through most of the initialisation stuff fine, but
just before printing /etc/issue, just after printing Free mem:..., it
prints:
general protection: 0000
EIP: 0008:0000DA65
EFLAGS: 00010086
fs: 0017
base: 00000000, limit: C0000000
Pid: 3, process nr: 3
39 78 04 74 06 83 78 04 00 75

It then lets me log on fine. However, certain commands (clear, sync)
produce a similar message.

Any ideas?

Piers.
