Since I am the one being flamed here, I think, this is just why I am doing
what I am doing. My bank said the *cheapest* way to send money overseas
carried a $30 surcharge. Since I would imagine most people would gladly
pay $10-$20 but would be reluctant to chug out $50 of which only $20 would
actually be of any use, I thought I might as well do something.

I repeat again that the *only* reason I do this is for the
currency/transmission issue. I am *not* going to ask *at all* of Linux to
give me any accounting for what he is using it for... I am only going to
work as a link in the transmission chain. To make sure that I do what I am
supposed to and not pocket any money, I say (again, more clearly):

        1. Put your e-mail address on your check. If you don't want
your name blasted all over the Internet, put some "ID" marking
on your check that I can post and you will recognize.

        2. Make your check out to me so I can wire it over or buy a bank
draft. I will confim each check as I get them, but will not
cash them until I am actually sending the money.

        3. When I send the money I will post to this newsgroup an
accounting of all the money, itemized by contributor, where
everyone including Linus can see. If you want this mailed to
you, I will be happy to do that as well.

        4. I'll send the money as a batch probably around mid September, if
           I have gotten enough responses.

        5. I intend to put my own money into this as well.

I am handing this through my mailbox at school, and I am sure the school
would not be pleased being used for a scam or other.

Again, the address:

        Linus Collection
        c/o Peter Anvin
        EECS department
        2145 Sheridan Road
        Evanston, IL 60208

NOTE: I am handing this for USA only. It would be pointless for me to deal
with other currencies.
