Hi there.
I just installed the kernel of linux on my hard disk. But I'm having
a trouble porting other programs to linux. All I'm trying to do is
to install mtools program. I got a copy of mtools.n.tar.Z from tsx-11,
downloaded to my PC, formatted a diskette, rawrited it onto the blank
diskette, booted linux, and did tar -xf /dev/fd0. It said /dev/fd0
doesn't look like a tar archive and skipping to the next file. The
light came on the floppy drive momentarily, but nothing happens. I DID
login as root, and tried with DOS-formatted diskette as well as
a diskette with mksf /dev/fd0 1200 executed. It's either I'm missing
something obvious, or tar program is defective. Oh, and I did uncompress
the file before i mounted it on the floppy. I tried it with compressed
format too, but didn't work. Basically I tried every possible combination.
For all unix-, linux-wiz's out there, please help me!
By the way, I can't access to this news group, so email me the solutions.
Thanks!
