The 64M partition limit is due to the use of Minix style filesystems.
The Extended filesystems allow up to 4 TERAbyte partitions and up to
255 characters in files (the minix fs only allows 14 char file names).

One word of warning: The extended fs is in alpha test...

However, I've not had one problem with them at all (using one for root
and one for /usr).
