PATH=$PATH:/mypath

What shell are you running? Looks like to me, csh. bash is based on
the Korn shell (ksh). Looking at the man pages for ksh (or, if not
available Bourne shell would most likely answer some of the rougher
questions. Bourne shell knowledge is getting my by for now...)
