Subject: X with S3

Hi,
 I have Linux 0.96c up and running with a Compudyne 486DX2-50MHz, 125MByte
IDE harddrive and a DS Stealth (has an S3 chip). I have downloaded the X11
code (source and binaries) from tsx-11. When I start X up (configured as
having an ET4000 chipset, yes I know this shouldn't work) I get an X screen
that looks like it has been cut into twelve vertical slices and each slice
contains the same image. Very strange looking!! Now the question. I seem
to remember someone who had information about the S3 chip. Would it be
possible to send me either the information or the source for the information?
Also is anyone working on an X driver for the S3 chip. If so I would like
to offer any help you might need. I have printed out the driver.c and bank.s
code for the ET4000 driver and they don't seem all that bad (although I don't
know what some of the special registers on the ET4000 do 8-)). Is this the
only video hardware dependant code in X??? Thanks for any information...
