From: jmsimon@acsu.buffalo.edu (JMS) Subject: X woes... Date: 3 Aug 1992 00:45:54 GMT
First, thank you to all who followed up to my last post (extended
partitions) - I am still trying to decide whether or not to install
0.97 (since I have 0.96c working so nicely, and this group has filled
up with several small annoyances lately ;)
Anyways, questions.
First of all, X works *great* - much better than I dared hope for. I have
xterm trouble though; if a program inverts the video (ie: more when it
displays --5%-- type messages) it never gets put back. The only way I can
get the xterm back to normal is to perform a hard reset.
Two: I quickly run out of pty's for xterms (xterm is using ttyp*'s instead
of ptyp*'s) and can only open 4. -Confusion-! Even if it is using the
ttyp*'s, I have 16...(yes, they are all set up correctly including the
major and minor numbers, protections, and owner, yet xterm will report
'no ptys' and not use them)
I tried rebuilding xterm after hacking out all other options in ptyx.h
(aside from /dev/ptyp*) and I succeeded in making the executable bigger,
but changing its operation in no way.
Help on either of these would be greatly appreciated. Oh - if someone would
like the vga.database entries on a 'Mentor SVGA' (ET4000 chipset) and a
Viewsonic 6 monitor, I have them after a long time. I also have some ways
of easily coming up with timings for those who don't want to run through
lots of formulas...;>
